What Does Kentucky’s KYTC Do?

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) handles all services for drivers in the state, including driver licensing and ID card applications and renewals; vehicle titles, registrations, and renewals; driving records; and boat registration.

When you move to Kentucky, you must exchange your driver’s license and apply for a vehicle registration within 30 days of establishing residency in the state. Prior to registering your vehicle, you must first have a Sheriff’s inspection performed at your local Sheriff’s office. Military non-residents stationed in Kentucky are not required to get a KY license or registration while serving in the state.

Online and Third-Party Services

The KYTC’s online services include:

You can access many licensing and vehicle forms online. You can also access the Kentucky Driver Manual online, in addition to the Motorcycle and Commercial driver handbooks. Looking to study for your license exam? The DOV offers an online practice test to give you the extra prep you need.

The KYTC partners with the State Police for its driver testing, including written and road tests. It also partners with third-party servicers for driver education and training, motorcycle training and testing, and its online practice test service.
