The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) handles all services for drivers in the state, including driver licensing and ID card applications and renewals; vehicle titles, registrations, and renewals; and driving records. The OH Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is responsible for boat/vessel registrations as well as boater education and licensing.
When you move to Ohio, you must exchange your driver’s license and apply for a vehicle registration within 30 days of establishing residency in the state. Your vehicle will need to undergo a VIN inspection before it can be titled and registered in Ohio. These inspections can typically be done at your licensing agency office.
The BMV also has specific information geared toward its military residents and non-residents, in order to accommodate the unique circumstances that military service brings. Non-residents stationed in Ohio are not required to get an OH license or registration while serving in the state.
